Importance of Having the Right Monitor For Your Needs

If you have all the budget in the world to buy the biggest monitor with all the future-proof features available for the newest models, then go ahead and invest in one. However, for most of us with a limited budget, research, identifying the best specifications, and comparing monitor models to find a type that fits your needs are all necessary to get your money’s worth.

So how do you know which is the right monitor for your needs? Here are several things you should consider:

Purpose of Use

How you will use the monitor should be the biggest deciding factor when picking a monitor. If you’re going to use it for basic computer tasks, such as Word processing, online web searches, or social media, any monitor would do. However, specific tasks would require special display types. For example:

  • Business: A monitor that is fast with clear pictures and modern features should be enough to future-proof for any kind of business.
  • Creatives: A graphic designer, animator, architect, and other creative professionals would need a monitor with the best image quality and color reproduction to complete their tasks.
  • Gaming: A monitor for gaming differs completely from other display types because this offers a quick transition (no ghosting), improved color quality, and response rate. Are you planning to play games alone, or with family and friends?
  • Entertainment: Are you going to use the monitor for streaming movies or TV shows? Or as a display to match your game console? If so, the specifications for your ideal monitor would have to meet this demand. Go for a big-sized display or one with the highest resolution.

Picture Quality

Screen resolution is the number of pixels a monitor can display. The number represents the number of dots/pixels you get horizontally and vertically.

If picture quality is the most priority feature you need, look for a monitor with good resolution. Generally, the higher the resolution, the better the picture quality and the finer the details.

For 3D modeling and designs, a resolution of 1920 x 1080 (or Full HD) should be enough. For complicated graphic design or video editing, choose from full HD to 4k (3840×3160) based on your budget. Professional creatives like photographers and video editors require the highest resolution that their money can afford.

Monitor Size

The size of a monitor contributes greatly to its tag price. Obviously, the bigger a monitor, the higher its price. Size shouldn’t be the only factor to consider, since a smaller display with impeccable picture quality still trumps a bigger-sized monitor but with average picture quality.

Basic monitor sizes range from 15 inches to 30 inches, but there are bigger ones more ideal for creatives in the 27-inch to 40-inch range. When you’re going to work on the computer, a 32-inch display is often more than enough to complete your tasks.

However, if your purpose for this display is to play games or watch movies, and monitor large enough to fit your wall, office, or game room is the best size for you. You can find monitors larger than 50 inches, but can this fit your home office?

Would portability be a feature you’d need? Find portable monitors that are small enough as a tablet, but work exactly like any ordinary monitor.

Design Features

Monitors vary by design – some are bezel-less, others are designed traditionally. The monitor stands nowadays look flimsy but they’ve actually been found to be the most sturdy. Some monitors have adjustable arms, and tiltable backs, or are designed to be ready for wall mounting.

Are you eyeing a curved monitor, but don’t know if this is ideal for your work or hobby? In most cases, a curved monitor boasts of an immersive viewing experience that is fit for streaming, watching movies, playing games, and other similar picture-heavy tasks.

Budget

It is never good to use the budget as your only deciding factor, especially with gadgets and devices that you use for work. But the reality is that many people have a budget and are forced to stick to this budget.

The good news is you can always sacrifice one feature to receive another. You just have to determine what monitor features are most important for you. Is it resolution? Is it picture quality? How about color reproduction? Or the speed it can showcase one picture to the next?

Maybe you’ll be using the monitor for your accounting work and the occasional streaming of movies. A bigger-sized display with advanced resolution should be enough for you. Meanwhile, a gamer who will use the monitor for graphic design work can always choose the best specs oversize.

We live in a world where monitors come in numerous brands and models. As such, it is definitely possible to find the best monitor for you based on design, size, image quality, budget, and purpose.
